If I eat low-fat and / or diet foods I will lose weight

Low-fat and/ or diet foods generally don’t assist weight-loss efforts. The may be lower in fat, but to compensate for this are often higher in sugars, carbohydrate or starch thickeners. This helps improve flavour but results in a similar calorie level. Plus, the higher carbohydrate content may induce a greater insulin response compared to the lower carb/ higher fat alternative, which may lead to greater fat storage.

Also, because the fat has been removed, many low-fat and or diet foods are less satisfying, which means people tend to consume more of them. (more…)
